Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Nanhao Village, Baoting, Hainan, and the reference section lies by the highway from Maogan to the Nanhao Cement Plant in Baoting. It was named by the Geological Party of Hainan in 1976.


Lithology and Thickness

Siltstone and Sandstone. Dominated by light-gray, gray-brown and gray-white sericite siltstone (phyllitic structure), quartz sandstone and silty slate, with pebbly quartz sandstone or siliceous conglomerate at bottom. Thickness >218 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unconformable contact with the underlying Silurian Zusailing Fm (Xu Shouyong et al., 1992) is an interpretation.

Upper contact

Uncertain: Its relationship with the overlying stratum is unclear. Next younger regional unit is the Qingtianxia Fm sandy claystone

Regional extent

Distributed only in Baoting County
